Summary:
The global job market is changing at an alarming rate, and so global education has become necessary for the 21st century learner. Keeping this in mind, a career awareness programme on "Certificate in Accounting Technicians (CAT)" was organised by the Department of Accounting and Taxation, IIS (deemed to be a university), in association with "The Institute of Cost Accountants."
Ms. Nidhi Verma (Deputy Director of ICAI) shared a presentation on the Relevance of "CAT" as a Qualification. She elucidated that the objective of the Certificate in Accounting Technician programme is to develop among the students the necessary skills required to apply theoretical knowledge of accounting to practical situations in different functional areas of accounting. CAT aims to spread opportunities to the students’ community who want to achieve something in this field. The Admission for CAT Course is done with reference to the Examination which is presently held twice in a year – June & December.
Best thing about this programme is that there are just 4 modules online MCQ based tests, which the student can give from anywhere. The Examination is conducted twice in a year – June & December. The Institute has also developed online self-assessment module for faculty and students for their help. After passing the exam students can directly selected for CMA Intermediate exam. The dual advantage of the programme is that, besides being a full-fledged degree course, it provides an opportunity for earning additional qualifications and becoming job-ready. The Certificate is awarded to the student on successful completion of the CAT course, i.e., Examination, Assessment Tests, Training and orientation.
At the end of the sessions, all questions taken up were satisfactorily answered by Ms. Verma.
Outcome of the activity: Students gain awareness about the CAT course. The number of queries for admission to this programme also increased.
