Moot Court Activity

 Moot Court Activity

The Department of Accounting and Taxation organized a “Moot Court Activity” for the Professional Students pursuing CA and CS. The activity was conducted on 1st November, 2012 in the Audio Visual Hall of the The IIS University.

The activity was organized as a part of the curriculum of CS Final Course, wherein the students of B.Com (Hons.) (Professional CS) were given a case on Corporate Non Disclosures. The entire group was divided into groups of 5 students and a total of ten groups were formed. Each group was asked to prepare the case as petitioner and defendant. A period of one month was given to them to prepare for the activity taking into consideration the various legal, ethical and factual aspects of the case.

On the day of the activity, an artificial court was created in the A.V. Hall and two Company Secretaries namely Trisha Dalmia and Richa Sharma were called to judge the performance of the students. Toss was done to decide as to whether the groups will be fighting the case as petitioner or defendant. Consequently, five groups came up as petitioners and five as respondents. Each group took around 30 to 45 minutes to present their points and claims about the case according to their respective roles. Judgment was done on important criterion like; the in-depth study of the case, legal language used, legal aspects considered, case studies referred, ethics followed, dress code, etc. First, Second and Third Ranks were awarded to Third, Tenth and Fifth group.

It was a great learning experience for the students as they encountered the actual legal proceedings followed, when a case is filed on corporate issues.
